Adam Azim, one of the rising stars of British boxing, takes a step up in class when he faces domestic rival Ohara Davies at London’s Copper Box Arena.

There is clamour for Azim (11-0, 8 KOs) to face another of the UK’s blue chip prospects in Dalton Smith — an encounter that now feels far more plausible with fights being made across promotional lines in boxing’s Riyadh Season era.

First he must get past his former training partner Davies, who is back in action for the first time since getting bulldozed inside a round by Ismael Barroso in Las Vegas in January.

That snapped a seven-fight winning streak and the fact the former British and Commonwealth champion’s only other career defeats have come at the hands of Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall proves he only tends to come up short in elite company.

That is where Azim intends to prove he belongs, as many good judges anticipate.

“I am preparing for the biggest puncher of my career,” the 22-year-old told Sky Sports. “He is a big puncher but the aim of the game is not to get hit.

“I want to be going back to my corner, sitting down, and when Shane [McGuigan] asks me the question ‘how is his punch’, I want to say ‘I have not been hit yet.

“I know I have come from the high mountains of Kashmir and I know that I am a warrior in my family. I have a lot more to come. I am still young, I am still learning, and I am looking forward to the fight.”

Anthony Yarde and Dan Azeez are both in undercard action, seemingly with the aim of setting up an intriguing all-British light heavyweight showdown in 2025.

The Sporting News will update live results throughout the Azim vs. Davies fight card and provide a full report on the main event.
