Subaru has unveiled its fourth electric vehicle, a three-row SUV called Getaway. It will go on sale later this year, offering over 300 miles of range.

Each Getaway will come standard with two electric motors, one on each axle, with 420 horsepower on tap. Subaru says the EV sprints to 60 miles per hour in less than 5.0 seconds, has a 3,500-pound towing capacity, and offers 8.3 inches of ground clearance.

The long-range model will go on sale first, featuring a 95.8-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery with 150-kilowatt charging. The EV can recharge from 10 to 80 percent in 30 minutes and comes standard with the North American Charging Standard that provides access to Tesla’s Supercharger network.

A standard-range model will go on sale in the first half of 2027 with a 77.0-kWh battery. The Getaway is available with the same pack sizes as the new Toyota Highlander EV, and the two look nearly identical, but the Subaru makes more power. Subaru partnered with Toyota to jointly develop several EVs, including the Getaway.

Standing Out As A Subaru

Despite the similarities with the Toyota, the Subaru features the brand’s illuminated logo, which is standard on every Getaway, and signature headlights. At the back, Subaru differentiates its EV from Toyota’s with an illuminated Subaru logo between the taillights. Roof rails are standard, with 19- or 20-inch wheels, depending on the trim.

Inside, the Getaway looks identical to the Highlander EV. The dashboard, steering wheel, and center console are indistinguishable. The Subaru comes standard with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.0-inch infotainment display, wireless 15-watt charging, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Heated seats are standard, with second- and third-row heated seats available. Ventilated front- and second-row seats, as well as a heated steering wheel, are also offered on certain trims. The EV can seat up to seven, with three-zone climate control, third-row vents, and USB-C chargers in every row.

The 2027 Subaru Getaway goes on sale in late 2026. The automaker will release pricing details closer to its on-sale date, but we expect the EV to start in the mid- to upper-$40,000 range, sitting above the Trailseeker.

Motor1’s Take: Subaru’s fourth electric SUV might look quite similar to Toyota’s, but it makes more power while coming standard with all-wheel drive. That might be a big enough differentiator to stand out from the new Highlander EV.
