The Buffalo Sabres should be watched closely, as the 2025 NHL trade deadline is this week. The Sabres are currently at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings, so they could make some roster changes.

Jordan Greenway is one Sabre who has been creating chatter in the rumor mill. It is understandable, as he is a pending unrestricted free agent and precisely the kind of big, hard-nosed player contenders always target. However, it is clear that the Sabres have not shut the door on keeping him around.

According to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, the Sabres have had extension talks with Greenway, and the power forward is willing to stay put. However, LeBrun also noted that it isn’t a guarantee yet, and the prospect of Greenway being traded is still there.

“There have been preliminary contract talks between Sabres and Jordan Greenway’s camp,” LeBrun reported on X. “The pending UFA is open to extending. But whether or not both sides can agree on what that looks like remains to be seen. And BUF has to balance that vs. solid interest on trade market for him.”

The Sabres clearly have a big decision to make with Greenway over the next few days. It would certainly be nice if they can agree to terms on a new deal with the gritty forward. However, if they don’t make progress on their extension talks, they may have no choice but to trade him. He’s too valuable an asset for the Sabres to potentially lose for nothing this off-season, especially with Buffalo’s playoff hopes being astronomically low this season.

Sabres Working On Extending Jordan Greenway? With seven days until the NHL Trade Deadline, the Buffalo Sabres are likely fielding the highest volume of calls from contending clubs looking to make a roster upgrade in their pursuit of a Stanley Cup. GM Kevyn Adams indicated earlier this month that he is interested in re-signing pending unrestricted free-agent wingers Jason Zucker and Jordan Greenway, preferably before March 7.

In 24 games this season with the Sabres, Greenway has three goals, eight points, 72 hits, and an even plus/minus rating.
