The Chicago Blackhawks have a great group of prospects in their organization. Some of them are in the NHL, some of them are in the AHL, and others play in various leagues across the world.
One of those leagues is the NCAA. One of the top teams in college hockey right now is Boston University. They are in third place in Hockey East and have Frozen Four aspirations at this time.
Blackhawks prospect Ryan Greene is the captain at BU. Not only is a be a wonderful leader, but he is also showing signs of being a good player who can turn pro soon.
Greene may need time in the AHL before making the jump to the big leagues but he has the tools to be an everyday NHL contributor someday. He plays like someone who would be a third or fourth-line center at the highest level.
So far this season with BU, Greene has 12 goals and 15 assists for 27 points in 31 games. He will get past his previous high of 36 which came last season in 40 games. All of this while playing a sound-two way game is just what the doctor ordered for Ryan Greene who has raised his stock this year.
Green, in addition to being the captain, took on a new role with the team this year. With Macklin Celebrini graduating to the NHL as the number one overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft (San Jose Sharks), Greene took that spot centering the top line for BU.
As of right now, the 2022 second-round (57th overall) pick is amongst the leaders in Hobey Baker voting. Winning that would be a true honor and a wonderful thing for him to have on his hockey resume. Even being in the conversation is impressive.
Earlier this month, Boston University won the annual Beanpot over Boston College. This is BU’s 32nd Beanpot win and first since 2022. It’s exciting for them and there is more to be accomplished still.
Plenty of hockey is still left to be played this year at BU. Greene and his teammates certainly want to play as many games as possible as they pursue the national championship.
Greene may not be a star player at any point but just watching him tells you that he will make an impact in the NHL. A solid defensive bottom-six center who can contribute offense is a key role and the Blackhawks don’t have enough players like that at forward. This could be the answer.
