Vegas Golden Knights’ Mark Stone, Shea Theodore and Adin Hill received gold medals with Canada after beating the USA in the 4 Nations Face-Off finals.
Stone was participating in his first-ever best-on-best tournament with Canada and did exactly what the Canadian coaching staff wanted of him. Known for his defensive abilities as a winger, Stone routinely exemplified that facet of his game. Although there were times against the Americans where the 32-year-old looked a step slow, his hockey IQ allowed him to be positionally sound.
Theodore played just one period in the tournament before suffering an upper-body injury. The 29-year-old was in line to play a critical role on Canada’s blue line, skating alongside Drew Doughty and set to quarterback Canada’s second power play unit. A silver medalist at the World Championship and a gold medal winner at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, U-18s and the World Juniors will add another medal to his already impressive international career.
The Hockey News – REPORT: Golden Knights Defenseman Has A Broken Wrist ESPN analyst Emily Kaplan reported on the Unsportsmanlike podcast that Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Shea Theodore has a broken wrist.
Jordan Binnington started each one of Canada’s games and, at times, looked shaky, but he did prove to be the right man for the job. Because of this, Hill served as the backup goaltender and did not record any stats at the tournament.
The 28-year-old goaltender had represented Canada just once previously at the World Championship, where he won gold and will add a 4 Nations Face-Off gold medal to his collection. The Golden Knights would have loved to see Hill play, but the one positive factor is that he returns completely rested.
Golden Knights HC Bruce Cassidy will also be walking away with his first piece of silverware with Canada after he served as an assistant coach.
