Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported that the St. Louis Blues could be looking at moving their captain, Brayden Schenn and thinks that the Vegas Golden Knights could be a possible destination.
On St. Louis: Team isn’t playing well and Doug Armstrong isn’t afraid to make moves. There is a lot of interest in Brayden Schenn and it would be a big price. TSN’s Darren Dreger was the first to report that the St. Louis Blues could be inclined to move several players from their roster, including Schenn, Jordan Kyrou and Pavel Buchnevich.
On 32 Thoughts, Friedman pitched out that Blues GM Doug Armstrong isn’t afraid to make big moves, and if he feels the return for the Blues forwards, particularly Schenn, is what he likes, he could be inclined to move them.
The Golden Knights recently signed Brandon Saad, a winger who mutually terminated his contract with the Blues, but as the playoffs roll around, depth plays a key factor, and the Golden Knights have never shied away from adding at the deadline.
Schenn, 33 years old, has been the prototypical middle six centre throughout his Blues career. He’s recorded 50 points five times and scored 20 goals another five times. At this stage of his career, he’s become a mature leader who plays a 200-foot game.
Nicolas Roy and William Karlsson have played as the Golden Knights depth centres but have both struggled with injuries. Schenn would not only fit in nicely alongside them but could seamlessly fill in if they sustain injuries in the playoffs.
The deal would be difficult to pull off but not impossible. The Blues are looking for a big package, but Schenn also has three more seasons on his $6.5M cap hit. Acquiring Schenn would instantly improve their roster, but the long-term outlook might not.
