On Sunday February 9, 2025, it was announced that the Los Angeles Kings were putting Defenseman Andreas Englund on waivers with the purpose of assigning him to the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Ontario Reign.

This morning, Monday February 10, 2025, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Englund has been claimed by the Nashville Predators (a common occurrence in recent years).

Signed by the Kings on July 1, 2023, Englund agreed to a two-year deal worth $1M AAV. It was a short term deal good for both sides. The Kings got a physical presence on their blue line and Englund got a chance to play a defined role with a playoff club.

He appeared in ninety-eight games (Regular Season and Postseason combined) with the Kings, tallying twelve points including his first goal in the NHL.

Englund played all-eighty-two regular season games last season, spending the majority of that time alongside Defenseman Jordan Spence. Englund’s size, intimidation, and willingness to drop the gloves, provided Spence (and others) with a bodyguard.

This season, Englund has only found his way into the lineup eleven times with one goal and twelve PIMS.

Had Englund cleared waivers, he would have been assigned to the Ontario Reign as a short term, stopgap measure to clear up a roster spot in LA. After the NHL trade deadline (March 7, 2025), teams can carry an unlimited amount of players on their active rosters.

Englund, selected in the second round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators, has played in one hundred seventy-eight NHL games (Regular Season and Postseason combined) with one hundred sixty-one PIMS.
