The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins returned from their AHL All-Star break by hosting the Bridgeport Islanders, picking up a 3-0 victory with Tristan Jarry turning away 31 shots for his first AHL shutout.
The Penguins got goals from Sam Poulin, Tristian Broz, and Boris Katchouk. Meanwhile, Ville Koivunen and Katchouk each had two points.
In the first period, WBS went up 1-0 when Poulin scored an unassisted goal at 11:22 with a snipe from the top of the circle.
Roughly six minutes later, Broz, skating in his first game since Dec. 28, tallied his 13th of the year in front of the net with helpers from Koivunen and Katchouk.
Neither team scored in the second period, and the Penguins remained ahead 2-0 into the final minutes until Katchouk scored an empty net goal at 17:11, with Koivunen and Jack St. Ivany assisting on the play.
Both teams sent 0-for-2 on the power play. There were no penalties in the first, with Bridgeport taking two in the second. Jonathan Gruden fought Riley Piercey early in the third, while Broz and Dan Renouf took penalties later in the period.
The Penguins outshot the Islanders 36-31, with Bridgeport netminder Henrik Tikkanen making 33 saves in the loss, while Jarry was perfect with 31 saves. It was his first AHL shutout since Mar. 27, 2019, against the Providence Bruins, where he made 23 saves.
With the win, WBS has 54 points in 40 games, thanks to a 25-11-4-0 record. They are in fourth place in the Atlantic Division, one point behind the Bruins and Charlotte Checkers, with 55 points.
On Saturday, the Penguins welcome the Cleveland Monsters (24-13-3-4) to Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza for a 6:05 p.m. ET puck drop.
