The Kansas City Chiefs likely will be without a key defensive star on Christmas Day against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Defensive tackle Chris Jones is doubtful to play with the calf injury he suffered during Saturday’s win over the Houston Texans, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, with the short week between games giving him a smaller recovery window.
The 30-year-old has been a menace on the defensive line for the Chiefs yet again this season, registering 37 tackles (nine for loss), five sacks, 20 quarterback hits and a forced fumble. The five-time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team All-Pro selection doesn’t have the gaudy counting stats of years past, but he continues to dominate the line of scrimmage.
His absence will be felt, especially in a game with major postseason implications. The 14-1 Chiefs can wrap up the top overall seed in the AFC Playoffs with a win, while the 10-5 Steelers are looking to remain ahead of the 10-5 Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North.
