Here are The Commercial Appeal’s boys and girls All-Metro golf teams for the 2024 season.

Girls Golfer of the Year

Catherine Bowie

Hutchison School, Fr.

Catherine Bowie’s a gamer.

“When it matters, she’s gonna perform well,” her mother, Louisa Bowie, said.

It was the final day of the Division II-AA girls golf championships in Sevierville on Oct. 11. Bowie knew she had a chance to win that day, but she didn’t check her position throughout the day. Why ruin the moment, the place where she’s the happiest — out on a golf course?

“I wasn’t gonna try to pressure myself too much with the final score and standing,” Catherine Bowie said. “I have so much fun when I’m playing big tournaments like that.”

It wasn’t until her brothers rushed to her after the final putt that Catherine knew she’d won it all.

“It felt awesome,” she said.

The Hutchison freshman shot 4-under 136 to capture the state title, and help Hutchison to a third-place team finish. Her score was the best score in Hutchison history and the seventh-best two-day total in tournament history. Bowie is The Commercial Appeal’s girls golfer of the year.

A shift to golf, after two years of playing softball, and a transition to Collierville’s Spring Creek Ranch golf club kickstarted what could be a tremendous high school career.

“She completely fell in love with the place and then fell in love with the sport through that,” Louisa Bowie explained.

The love of golf has grown into daily trips to the course, chipping and 9-hole contests with any takers on a given day. According to her mom, she even won a brand-new putter when a man at the course bet that she couldn’t beat him on a back-9. That’s just the competitive drive that makes Bowie special.

After finishing ninth at state as an eighth grader, and finishing first as a freshman, Bowie has no plans of slowing down.

“Oh yeah, I’m gonna win the next three years,” she said.

All-Metro girls team

Hana Barber

St. Mary’s, Sr.

Barber placed second at the Division II-AA girls golf state tournament, shooting a 1-under 139 in two rounds and helping St. Mary’s finish first as a team. The Turkeys were the only Memphis-area team to win a golf state title this season. Barber had a 9-hole average of 36 for the season.

Jada Lynn

St. Mary’s, 8th grader

After winning the middle school golf title last spring, Lynn was one of three St. Mary’s middle schoolers to join the varsity team this fall. She was among the state title-winning team’s best performers, averaging 37.5 per nine holes. She placed third at the Division II-AA girls state golf tournament, shooting a 4-over 144.

Claire Todd

Evangelical Christian School, Sr.

The Eagles’ standout senior shot 3-over, 143, across two rounds at the DII-A state tournament to finish fourth, helping ECS to a fourth-place finish as well. Todd plans to sign with Memphis.

Isabella Shannon

Arlington, So.

Shannon placed 10th at the Class AA state tournament after shooting an 11-over, 151, across two rounds. Her best finishes from the season include winning the Dragon Invitational and finishing as the district and region champion.

Mary Caroline Waggoner

St. Agnes, Jr.

Waggoner had a 40.7 nine-hole average this season for St. Agnes. She shot a 15-over, 155, at the Division II-AA girls state golf tournament, placing 11th.

Boys Golfer of the Year

Charles Snider

Memphis University School, So.

MUS golf coach Cliff Frisby didn’t quite have the words to describe Charles Snider’s poise, but he knew it was special.

“He’s kinda shy,” Frisby explained. “All of his words are on the golf course. When he gets engaged, he can play.”

Snider narrowly missed out on selection for Frisby’s region team as a freshman. A year later, Frisby described his standout sophomore as a more aware player. More confident than ever. The confidence and poise reached a new peak during a September match at Timber Truss where Snider shot a 6-under, 30, for nine holes.

A month later, Snider shot 5-under, 139, to finish fourth at the DII-AA boys golf championships, with MUS placing second as a team. Snider maintained a nine-hole average of 34 throughout the season, and is The Commercial Appeal’s boys golfer of the year.

“It means a lot because I’ve been working pretty hard at it shows it’s paying off,” Snider said of winning the award. “I want to bring back state to MUS as a team and try to win it individually.”

All-Metro boys team

Brantley Moore

MUS, So.

Moore averaged a 34 for nine holes this season and finished 2-under, 142, to place fifth at the DII-AA boys golf championships, helping the Owls to a second-place team finish.

Cooper Solberg

MUS, Sr.

Solberg shot a 35 nine-hole average this season and finished eighth at the DII-AA boys golf championships, shooting a 2-over, 146, across two rounds.

Grey Collard

Christian Brothers, So.

Collard had a 72.6 adjusted season stroke average. The CBHS sophomore finished tied for 15th at the DII-AA boys golf championships after shooting a 7-over, 151. He won the Ronnie Wenzler Memorial Tournament at Timber Truss during the season.

Andersen House

Bartlett, Sr.

House shot a 36.8 nine-hole average and made a third straight appearance at the state tournament, shooting a 7-over, 151, to finish tied for 21st at the Class AA boys golf championships.

Jackson Whaley

Collierville, Jr.

Whaley shot an 8-over, 152, to finish tied for 25th in Class AA. During the season, he had a 35.8 nine-hole average, won medalist honors at the region tournament, finished second at the FCA tournament and third at the Dragon Invitational.
