The Daniel Jones era is over in New York after the Giants benched him for Tommy DeVito, and now Big Blue must figure out who their long-term signal-caller will be moving forward.

That person will have a rising star in rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers, who’s fared well with 61 catches for 607 yards and three scores in eight games.

When asked Thursday what qualities he would like in the Giants’ new quarterback, Nabers provided a blunt and honest response.

Malik Nabers is asked about the qualities he wants a QB to have and the future of the position for the Giants:

Nabers has seen his fair share of targets, averaging 11.75 per game. However, the Giants have still encountered trouble getting him the ball this year, whether it was because of inaccurate Jones throws, a failure to see Nabers (or get the ball to him on time) or a collapsing pocket that prevented the quarterback from getting the ball out.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll seemed to imply that Jones needed to do a better job creating explosive plays for Nabers and others after an ugly 28-3 home loss to the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this year.

Q: “You haven’t been able to create explosive plays with Daniel [Jones] in three years. What gives you confidence that he can do it?”
Brian Daboll: “We have guys around him that can create explosive plays. We’ll go back to the drawing board and do the very best we can.” pic.twitter.com/2rK6ZUiDYm

The Giants have an electric talent in Nabers, but his skills have frankly been underutilized mainly due to Jones’ struggles.

But as long as Big Blue can find someone to give him the ball, Nabers should be happy, and that in turn could help the Giants turn around the fortunes of a franchise that’s won just one playoff game over the last 12 seasons.
