The Pittsburgh Penguins absolutely crushed the Philadelphia Flyers 7-0 in their first game of the 2026-27 NHL season on Wednesday night.
They were the better team from the opening drop of the puck and never let up.

It was a historic win, as according to OptaStats on X, it’s the largest road shutout in a season opener in NHL history.
Wednesday’s game also matched the Penguins’ largest margin of victory against the Flyers. Per Bob Grove, the only other time they beat them 7-0 was in 1988.
