When Steve Cohen joined the Mets’ broadcast booth during Saturday afternoon’s game against the Phillies, he talked about trying to “add certain voices into the front office” for 2027. Five days later, the Mets’ plans appear to be in motion.
After a report yesterday from Will Sammon and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic that the Mets were “moving toward” adding Derek Falvey to their front office, the organization today officially announced Falvey as senior advisor of baseball operations. The Mets also promoted Kris Gross to assistant general manager of scouting.

Falvey had been the president of baseball operations for the Minnesota Twins since November of 2019. He worked with Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns from 2011-12, when the two were co-directors of baseball operations in Cleveland.
“I am excited to join the New York Mets and become part of a franchise that means so much to so many people,” said Falvey via a Mets press release. “Throughout my conversations with the organization, what stood out were the high expectations and the commitment to winning at every level. What I’ve always loved most about this game is being part of a team, and I look forward to bringing my experiences and contributing to this group in any way I can. I want to thank Steve and Alex Cohen and David Stearns for this opportunity.”
Gross had been the Mets’ vice president of amateur and international scouting since November of 2023 after spending more than a decade as a scout with the Astros. The Mets happened to offer a window into the inner workings of their scouting process on Thursday with the release of “Searching For Tomorrow,” an original production featuring interviews with Gross and other scouts.
Per Stearns, Gross will now contribute to major league transactions as well as amateur talent acquisition.
