Mets top prospect Jett Williams left the final game of the Arizona Fall League season in the bottom of the first with a right ankle sprain.
Williams was ranging back in deep left-center to make a catch when he banged hard into the outfield fence, and after making the throw back into the cutoff man, he tossed his glove up into the air and went down in pain.
After staying down for a few moments, he was helped off the field by trainers.
There’s still no word on the severity of the sprain, but according to MLB.com’s Anthony Dicomo, team officials are optimistic that it won’t be too big of a deal heading into the offseason.
That’s certainly a big sigh of relief for both Williams and the Mets, as the youngster already missed significant time during this past minor league season after undergoing wrist surgery.
The youngster should see some reps in big-league camp this spring training before beginning the year in Triple-A.
Yikes, you hate to see this. Mets CF/SS prospect Jett Williams bangs into the wall, throws the ball to the cutoff man, and then seemingly crumples in pain. Stayed down for several minutes and then left the game. pic.twitter.com/YKdB9yGx99
