Indianapolis Colts wide receiver was charged this week with two misdemeanor offenses stemming from his drunk-driving arrest on August 30.
A violation of the league’s substance-abuse policy, which this was, comes with a minimum three-game suspension under the current NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement. A longer suspension can be issued if the player was more intoxicated.

Allen blew a .224 when he was arrested, nearly triple the legal limit of .08. His blood alcohol level was so high that it actually triggered a more serious Class A misdemeanor according to Indiana law.
The NFL is reportedly waiting for the legal proceedings of the case to conclude before issuing a suspension. Allen and the Colts will play the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2’s “Sunday Night Football” game, despite the looming suspension.
The next aspect of Allen’s case is expected to be an attorney conference on October 26. This would mean that, at the earliest, the wide receiver’s suspension could begin in Week 8 if the NFL does indeed wait for the situation to play out in the legal system.
The 34-year-old veteran was arrested at the end of August. He was initially charged with “operating a vehicle with alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.” Both of these charges are misdemeanors.

Allen joined the Colts on a one-year deal. In his debut with the team in Week 1, he came down with all six of his targets for 32 yards.
The veteran wide receiver returned him in 2025 and spent the season with the Los Angeles Chargers. Allen began his career with the franchise and spent 11 years in L.A. before leaving for the Chicago Bears for the 2024 season.
In 172 career games, Allen has tallied 12,083 yards with 70 touchdowns. He was expected to add a veteran presence to the Colts’ receiving corps alongside Alec Pierce and Josh Downs. Now, Indianapolis awaits to see when, and for how long, it will lose Allen to a suspension.
