The on-ice portion of NHL training camps start on Thursday, Sept. 17, and the news from the day before was already busy.
Winnipeg Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck didn’t report to camp amid his trade request and was suspended by the team.

Detroit Red Wings center Dylan Larkin is reporting after his trade request but won’t be able to take part in practice sessions because he suffered an upper-body injury during offseason training.
Columbus’ Adam Fantilli, Detroit’s Simon Edvinsson and Carolina’s Alexander Nikishin are among the unsigned restricted agents.

Dylan Larkin won’t reveal reason for trade request
Dylan Larkin would not say if he has rescinded his trade request, but he has spoken to his Red Wings teamamtes about the situation.
Asked what triggered the request, Larkin said, “There’s a lot there. A lot of personal stuff. To be honest with you − I’m going to try and be honest with you guys today. And that’s as far as I’ll go on that.

“I understand that there’s answers that fans and people that care about this organization around the world want to know. But I’m really not ready to go there. It’s maybe something that I may never be. And it wasn’t easy to get to that decision. It was very hard. It wasn’t a spur of the moment thing.”

Winnipeg Jets address Connor Hellebuyck’s absence
Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff said no doors are closed on suspended Connor Hellebuyck returning to the team but, “at the end of the day, that will be his choice.”

Hellebuyck was suspended after not appearing at a team function on Wednesday. The GM said he will continue to explore trade talks but there is no deadline for getting it done.
“We’ve been trying to make trades that work for both sides for a long time and will continue to do that,” he said.
Cheveldayoff said he hasn’t received an offer that’s commensurate with a goalie of the caliber of Hellebuyck, who has won three Vezina trophies, a Hart Trophy and an Olympic gold medal.
“I want to get this right,” he said.
The New Jersey Devils said forward Nick Bjugstad had surgery last week for a torn left pectoral muscle and will be out four to six months.
