Having announced the contract renewal of Hamza Abdelkarim earlier today, FC Barcelona are now moving ahead swiftly in their bid to secure the future of another promising youngster, Brian Farinas.
The 20-year-old La Masia starlet’s current contract runs until the summer of 2028 and has a low release clause of around €20 million, which the Blaugrana are keen on improving.

After all, Farinas is now a first-team player with a senior registration in La Liga and the No. 4 shirt, previously worn by Ronald Araujo.
Negotiations advanced
Now, according to journalist Matteo Moretto, Barcelona are in advanced negotiations to renew Farinas’ contract by five more years.
This comes after the academy midfielder’s agent, Borja Garcia, held a meeting with the club sporting director Deco on Thursday, during which significant progress was made in the talks.
Now, it is believed that the conversations between the two parties are in an advanced stage, and an agreement is getting closer, which would see Farinas commit his future to Barça beyond 2030.

A major U-turn
This represents a major turnaround of fortunes for Farinas, considering that he was very close to leaving Barcelona in the summer.
Indeed, the La Masia midfielder appeared set to sign for Girona earlier in the summer before manager Hansi Flick pulled the plug on the deal, following Frenkie de Jong’s injury at the World Cup.
Having seen him closely during the pre-season, the German tactician was won over by the youngster and decided to keep him in the squad as part of his plans for the season.

This also meant that Barça decided to part ways with Tommy Marques, who had been in the first-team dynamics for most of the last season.

Farinas has yet to make his official first-team debut for Barcelona but he has been named in the matchday squad for four of five matches this season in all competitions.
With Rodri also arriving this summer and Marc Bernal making an impressive start to the campaign, the 20-year-old starlet is expected to have a rotational role this season.
But Barça see him as an important prospect for the future and are all set to secure his long-term future at the club.
