Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman declined to say who the team has installed as Jalen Hurts’ backup quarterback last week and the team isn’t sharing that information this week either.
The team’s depth chart for their Week 1 game against the Commanders lists both Tanner McKee and Andy Dalton as the second-string quarterback. Rookie Cole Payton is listed with the third team.

McKee has spent the last three seasons with the team and has started in Week 18 the last two seasons. Dalton joined the Eagles in a trade with the Panthers this offseason and has extensive experience as a starter with five teams.
If head coach Nick Sirianni does not name a No. 2 quarterback at some point this week, the revelation will likely come when the inactive list is released 90 minutes ahead of kickoff on Sunday. The Eagles will be hoping that whoever lands the gig isn’t needed for the meaningful portion of any games this season.
