Things are looking rough for the Detroit Tigers as the season winds down after dropping three of four to the Cleveland Guardians this past weekend, making it six losses over the last eight games. To make matters worse, all three defeats at Progressive Field came in walk-off fashion as the team continues to struggle in monumental fashion.

The Motor City Kitties return home to host the Minnesota Twins — against whom their seven-game road trip began last week — for a three-game weekday series starting on Monday with Troy Melton taking the mound in the opener. The 25-year-old has been struggling of late after a tremendous three-month stretch, having posted a 4.84 ERA and 5.02 FIP over his last four starts, which resulted in three personal losses and four total for his team.

Melton has faced Minnesota twice this summer — including his most recent outing — having put up a bloated 7.84 ERA and a brutal 10.05 FIP over 10 1/3 innings. His FIP is heavily inflated by the six home runs he surrendered over those two games, and his pair of hit-by-pitches did not help matters much either.

As of Sunday night, the Twins’ starter for Monday’s Labor Day matchup has not been announced.
