He may have waited four years for the rematch but, dang, did it all come together against Cheema as Melvin hit him with heavy hands, forcing the finish! Melvin stops Cheema in the sixth!

Melvin is more active with the more efficient punching, even if Cheema remains in a fight that is somewhat slipping away from him.

This kind of sums up Shannon Courtenay’s career, for me. 57-57. It’s a draw in a result that someone with a profile like Courtenay’s should have triumped in. But the skill-level she’s shown, for years, has tended to suggest otherwise.

Midway through the fight, Cotton is making Courtenay work in a fight that is more grueling in the ring that it appeared on paper. It’s a high-paced fight. Cotton doing well, in particular, when it comes to positioning. Courtenay given little time, or space, and thus prevents her from creating the kinds of openings she’d normally like.

I, for one, am all about pitting one nation against the other. Brits and Americans make sense. Puerto Ricans against Mexicans do, too. We could probably do Japanese against Australians while we’re at it.

But earlier this week, MVP announced its seventh iteration and though there are four fights on the main card, there is no national angle.

We’ve got Elif Turhan against Alycia Baumgardner in the main event, and championship bouts between Tiara Brown and Ellie Scotney, Skye Nicolson and Miyo Yashida, and Ramla Ali against Mikiah Kreps, too.

It all goes down in Arlington, Texas.

… every USA fighter is at a disadvantage with the Brits enjoying competing in front of their own fans.

That would make an overall American win even more impressive.

The Ryder Cup in golf is one of my favorite sports events of the year.

USA tends to believe it always has the talent. And with guys like Scottie Scheffler, they’re right. But what they have in skill they lack in camaraderie. The Europeans have brotherhood. Americans don’t. And that alone tends to close the gap. Europe knows how to play together, and win.

I think UK takes the bulk of tonight’s prelims, and goes 1-1 in the co-main and main events. I’ll keep a running leaderboard going, Ryder Cup style.

Maybe Britain dog-walks the Americans.

Anyone terminally online, like me, won’t have gone very long without seeing American influencer and boxing presenter, Wade Plemons, trolling British fans during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

What was wild, was that the British fans fell for it every time. All up in his mentions, elevating the post through the algorithm.

Maybe the chickens come home to roost tonight. Maybe they don’t.

But the main card is distinctively UK vs USA with five fights followingthat theme.

MVP’s own marketing language suggests this event has “national pride on the line with every fight,” and that’s true, at least, for Mayer vs Cameron, Dubois vs Moore, and then these undercard bouts, too:

The American shares a hostile rivalry with Caroline Dubois and, should Dubois win or lose, there could be shenanigans immediately after. I know I’ll have my popcorn ready. And my cookies. And soda — black cherry for me.
