A former super featherweight champion, Mayer (22-2) won welterweight gold in a heated series against Sandy Ryan. She beat Mary Spencer in October for the WBA, WBC and WBO super welterweight titles, the latter she looks to regain.
Known for creating fireworks in almost every fight she’s in, Mayer aims to do the same on fight night as she attempts to hold more gold.
“I’m predicting female fight of the year 100%. I don’t see anyone else who can top this… Even though we only have two minutes to be a little smarter, hit and don’t get hit. I’ve been working on more defense and more output,” Mayer said.
“I’ve had a high punch count, high volume, but just making it more clear and not letting the combo get returned on me.”
Cameron (22-1) is a former super lightweight champion, beating Jessica McCaskill to become undisputed. She went 1-1 against Katie Taylor for the belts. Attempting to face Taylor in a trilogy, when the fight was not going to come to fruition, Cameron moved to super welterweight and won the WBO title.
Born in Northampton, Cameron looks to make a statement at home and against a game Mayer.
“I think I’m a different breed. I think the tougher my challenge, the better I am. I know Mikaela [Mayer] is a tough test and that’s going to bring the best out of me, and I shine when I have those opponents in front of me. The best comes out of me and I think I’m unstoppable,” Cameron said.
