Channel 9 Big 22 Player to Watch, Cannon School wide receiver Marcus Sales, had several goals last season.

He wanted to break the 1,000-yard receiving mark in a season, to grow as a leader, and have a bigger role in shaping the future of the Cannon program.

He also wanted to earn a college scholarship. Sales accomplished that when he committed to Ohio University earlier in the summer.

He did it all through hard work. Sales’ head coach, Jamaal Birch, said he would text him late at night asking to turn the lights on in the stadium so he could get some more reps in. A work ethic he learned from his father.

“My dad played college football, and it just showed me what you have to do to get to the level you want to play at and ultimately attain the bigger picture goal, which for me is making the NFL,” Marcus Sales said.

Sales’ drive developed while in quarantine during COVID. He chose to use the time as a seventh-grader to dive into his craft. During that difficult time, his body changed, and so did his mentality.

“You had unlimited time to like do things, and then for me, it was just I just wanted to work,” Sales said. “I wanted to see my body change in different ways, and I just wanted to make my family proud.”
