Chelsea Reject Leeds Loan Bid for Mykhailo Mudryk as Transfer Talks Continue
Leeds United have seen an opening loan bid for Mykhailo Mudryk knocked back by Chelsea, although the situation remains active and there is no indication that discussions have ended. According to TeamTalk, Leeds remain in contact after an initial approach that “did not meet Chelsea’s demands”.

The broad picture is clear. Chelsea want to place Mudryk in an environment where he can secure regular minutes and begin rebuilding match sharpness after a long period away from competitive football. The 25-year-old “has not played competitive football for almost two years”, with his most recent Chelsea appearance coming in November 2024.
That context shapes everything around this negotiation. Leeds are understood to be an appealing option because they can offer a platform, yet Chelsea are weighing more than one route. The report adds that “the two clubs remain engaged in discussions and the move has not been ruled out”, which keeps the door open for further movement if the financial terms improve.
Mudryk Transfer Situation Remains Open
Chelsea’s immediate objective is practical. They “want to find Mudryk solution” and ensure he gets the “regular first-team football he needs”. It is also notable that Mudryk is “currently not training with Chelsea’s main first-team group as the club assesses his next move”.

There are alternatives on the table too. Coventry City, now managed by Frank Lampard, are mentioned as another possible destination, while other clubs are also attentive to developments.
Xabi Alonso Waits on Next Step
Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso offered a measured update when asked about the winger’s future. He said: “We will see, we still have time to decide and we don’t have to rush on many decisions and at the right time, we will take them. At the moment, not yet.”
That wording points to patience rather than urgency. Leeds still have a live chance, but any breakthrough is likely to depend on whether they can reshape their proposal into something Chelsea view as acceptable.

Our View
From a Leeds perspective, this is the sort of report that triggers more questions than excitement. Yes, Mykhailo Mudryk has obvious talent, and yes, if Chelsea are serious about helping him “rebuild his rhythm”, Elland Road could be a strong place to do it. But an unconvinced Leeds fan will look at the details and hesitate.
First, “has not played competitive football for almost two years” is a huge red flag. Leeds need players ready to contribute quickly, not a long-term recovery project who may need months to get anywhere near top level intensity. In the Premier League, there is no gentle runway.
Second, if Chelsea have already rejected the first bid because it “did not meet Chelsea’s demands”, then Leeds have to be disciplined. There is a difference between taking an opportunity and being talked into carrying the risk for another club. If Chelsea want him playing regularly, that benefits Chelsea too.

There is also the tactical question. Does Mudryk suit what Leeds need right now, or is this more about market opportunity than squad planning? Supporters will back bold recruitment, but only when it looks coherent. This one feels uncertain. If the terms become favourable, perhaps it is worth exploring further. If not, Leeds should walk away and focus on targets with sharper recent pedigree and fewer unknowns.
