The Tennessee Titans will host the Seattle Seahawks for a joint practice on Friday. Two days later, they’ll meet the reigning Super Bowl champion Seahawks in the second preseason game. Several Titans players need a bounce-back performance after struggling in joint practice against the San Francisco 49ers last weekend.

We’ve identified three Titans players in particular who need to take advantage of joint practice with the Seahawks.

Starting quarterback Cam Ward struggled versus the 49ers, completing 5-of-12 passes for 57 yards. Ward was inaccurate on several misfires and also took a disastrous intentional grounding penalty. He didn’t look like the same quarterback that had been making positive progress at camp. A strong showing versus Seattle’s stout secondary would get things moving back in a better direction.

Carnell Tate, WR

Rookie wideout Carnell Tate did not register a single catch in his preseason debut, though it was more of a Ward/offense problem. Still, he’s been routinely terrorizing Titans defensive backs Alontae Taylor and Cor’Dale Flott at practice. The Seahawks recently made cornerback Devon Witherspoon the highest-paid corner in NFL history. Hopefully we get some Tate-Witherspoon reps to analyze at Friday’s practice.

Titans secondary

Speaking of Taylor and Flott, they were absolutely abused in the first preseason game versus the 49ers’ second-string offense. Backup quarterback Kurtis Rourke completed 12-of-14 passes and rookie wideout De’Zhaun Stribling dominated. Head coach Robert Saleh said he isn’t panicking, but there is a sense of urgency. Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold has reigning Offensive Player of the Year Jaxon Smith-Njigba at his disposal. It appears to be a major mismatch in the Seahawks’ favor.
