Pirates starter Carmen Mlodzinski threw three pitches to A.J. Ewing to begin the frame before the umpiring crew made the call to roll the tarp onto the field.

New York is leading 1-0 after scoring in the first inning on Carson Benge‘s RBI single, which scored Ewing, who doubled to lead off the game and moved to third on a Bo Bichette infield single.
Mets starter Zac Thornton pitched two scoreless innings with a walk and a strikeout while dealing with the rain.
