Givairo Read’s Feyenoord future still remains uncertain ahead of the start of the Eredivisie season this weekend. Coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst has discussed various scenarios.

This transfer window, Read has been tracked unsuccessfully by both Nottingham Forest and AS Roma. The latter most recently saw a Serie A move fail to materialise, as Feyenoord’s 30 million euro valuation proved just too much.

The returning manager in Rotterdam opened up about the right-back’s predicament and his approach to staying at De Kuip.

“I saw a very mature player and discussed with him that there are multiple scenarios,” Van Bronckhorst said during his pre-Sparta Rotterdam press conference.

“There is a scenario where he stays here, but there is also a scenario where he leaves. I discussed that with him, but he is in a good position. You wouldn’t know from him that there have been negotiations; he trains well and is inherently a positive guy.”

Although recent transfer negotiations have stalled, Van Bronckhorst was unable to definitively say whether Read would stay. “He is a player who is in high demand, but the clubs also need to reach an agreement. I don’t want to say that a definitive deal is off the table.”

Regarding his own career moves, Van Bronckhorst imparted some valuable advice. “You can only keep training and keep developing yourself, waiting for the puzzle to eventually fall into place. I was quite relaxed about it, even when my dream club Barcelona came calling.”
