Tuesday’s (4th) Remo vs. Santos clash was already bound to be full of tension after the goalless first leg in the Copa do Brasil round of 16.

And, in fact, it was.

There was a red card after VAR intervention, a shot off the post by the team playing a man down, a moment of concern involving Neymar, and a goal from him, Rony Rústico, against the club that developed him.

Peixe battled, came up against an opponent that never gave up, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the competition with a 1-0 win at Mangueirão. 

It will be their first appearance among the tournament’s final eight since 2021.

That spot also secured a prize of R$ 4 million for Peixe. 

🟥 Red card after VAR

The controversial moment came in the 27th minute.

At first, the clash between Caballero and Marllon, with both players tugging at each other, resulted in a yellow card for Remo’s captain.

But then Anderson Daronco was called by Marco Aurélio Augusto Fazekas Ferreira to review the play.

And the card color changed to red, leaving the team from Pará down to 10 men in the 27th minute.
