Semi-automated offside is still not in use in the Copa do Brasil.

And the absence of the technology was in the spotlight during Chapecoense vs. Cruzeiro this Sunday (2).

So far, only the stadiums where the 20 Série A teams play their home matches, plus Arena Crefisa Barueri, Palmeiras’ “second home,” have received the necessary cameras/equipment.

The fact that the Copa do BR round of 16 includes two Série B teams (Juventude and Fortaleza) delayed the CBF from expanding the new system. 

There would be no level playing field if only two ties (Juventude vs. Atlético and Fortaleza vs. Palmeiras) were played without semi-automated offside.

Cruzeiro even celebrated in the 13th minute at Arena Condá.

But Kaique Kenji was flagged offside on the field.

And afterward, the video assistant referee’s review upheld the initial decision.
