“I was talking to Fred about that,” quarterback Brock Purdy said. “Like it’s just, it is different. In camp, it’s usually the four-down traditional stud defensive lineman with three linebackers and a strong quarter shell defense. Now it’s like, all right, we got five down. He gives us all these different kinds of looks and the shell’s always changing. Raheem’s done a good job with, I think, trying to disguise things against the quarterback but also the techniques that the DBs are playing with now, too, that’s a whole other thing.”
….A big emphasis for Morris since the spring has been about affording his players enough schematic simplicity to play fast. Saleh preached the same thing last season. Returning cornerback Renardo Green was asked about the differences, as the incumbent starter at a position that Morris has specifically coached before across multiple stops as an assistant.

“It’s easier to play faster,” Green said as a credit to Morris, “and I feel like he’s finer, more detailed with just realistic things. It’s a lot less thinking.”

The Chicago Bears selected Herbert in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He has appeared in 63 career games, making 13 starts, and has rushed for 1,957 yards and nine touchdowns. Herbert has also caught 54 passes for 316 yards and two touchdowns during stints with the Bears, Cincinnati Bengals, and New York Jets.
Wright signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent and has appeared in four career games with the Ravens and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has totaled six rushing yards on three carries.”
