Rodri may not have been Real Madrid’s top midfield target all along, but the Manchester City star is now the favourite to reinforce Jose Mourinho’s midfield department this summer.
After a phase where Florentino Perez vehemently opposed the veteran’s signing, the club are now firmly in his pursuit and even the club president has given the green light and conceded that the signing is much-needed.

Los Blancos have already spoken to the player and the negotiations with Manchester City were seen as the next big step. According to multiple reports, Thursday will be a very important day in that regard.
Offer officially tabled
As relayed by El Larguero now, Real Madrid have submitted a verbal offer to Manchester City for Rodri, opening the negotiations at a comfortable price point. The valuation of their proposal is €50 million and they are awaiting the Premier League side’s response.

The outlet go one step ahead and report that the negotiations have not only begun but are even close to concluding with a favourable outcome for Los Blancos.

The Spanish outlet, after all, reports that Rodri’s move to Real Madrid could be completed in a matter of ‘hours’. Given the speed of negotiations, it could be a flash signing as was the case with Marc Cucurella.
Real Madrid are now accelerating talks, and a final agreement is not expected to take much longer.
Valuation could rise
As brought to light earlier this week, Manchester City know well of Real Madrid’s need for a star midfielder and of how Rodri’s value is currently sky-high. There is, thus, no reason why they must accept Los Blancos’ opening offer.

Manchester City are reportedly looking for close to €70 million for the Spanish midfielder and may thus hold out and even reject Los Blancos’ opening offer.
Given that Rodri is in the final year of his contract, the Blues do not have much negotiating power as Real Madrid can simply wait a year and land him for free.
The negotiations, thus, will be interesting in the coming days for Real Madrid, who will look to keep the fee as low as possible. Rodri is, after all, 30 years of age with a worrying injury record.
