Jackson Koivun believes that he has got even more to prove if he hopes to earn a place on Brandt Snedeker’s Presidents Cup team despite winning the 3M Open this past week.
The golfing world is talking all about Koivun right now. The 21-year-old produced a superb performance to win at TPC Twin Cities, on just his third start as a professional on the PGA Tour.

It was remarkable just how comfortable Koivun appeared to be on Sunday, despite having Scottie Scheffler trying to chase him down in Minnesota.
With that, it is no surprise that some feel that Jackson Koivun simply has to be handed a captain’s pick for the Presidents Cup in September.

Koivun looks to have the game to be a stalwart for Team USA for a long time to come. So getting him into the fold at Medinah makes a lot of sense ahead of the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor.
Team USA has an outstanding record at the Presidents Cup, so picking Koivun seems to be a gamble worth taking.

However, when asked on Dan on Golf about whether he has thought about the Presidents Cup at all, Koivun insisted that he is not expecting a pick just yet.

“I’ve heard some talk, a little bit about it, but I feel like I still have a lot to prove to get really into that talk. I’ve given myself a nice runway to maybe make it into the playoffs and keep performing well, so we’ll see further down the road,” he said.

There are not many young players who prove that the hype is justified so quickly. There has been so much talk about Koivun in recent months, with many expecting him to make his mark on the PGA Tour.
A missed cut at the John Deere Classic did little to dampen the expectations. And those who had high hopes for him were vindicated with how he conducted himself at the 3M Open.

He has now won on the PGA Tour. It should not be forgotten just how long it took the likes of Tommy Fleetwood and Cameron Young to secure their maiden victories.
Interestingly, when he was asked whether he was surprised by how quickly he opened his account, Koivun suggested that he had enough confidence to believe that it was not out of the question.
“I would say a little bit of both. Just building off past results, I knew I was capable of coming out here and winning, but especially at John Deere, I did feel a little different being a pro. It took me about a week to get settled in, played well last week and was able to get it done this week,” he said.
It will probably surprise some just how long ago the 3M Open will feel by the time the Presidents Cup comes around.

Chris Gotterup was unable to capitalise enough on his momentum in time for the Ryder Cup after winning the Scottish Open last year.
But the bar to make the Presidents Cup team should not be so high. So if Koivun can continue to show glimpses of his potential in the coming weeks, then surely it would be a no-brainer for Snedeker to pick him.
