Tony Romo takes his golf seriously. The former Dallas Cowboy and current CBS color commentator has made a serious run at PGA Tour qualification in the past. He’s even got his own official profile on the organization’s site.
That hasn’t yet led to a change in profession, but his love for the game is clear. It’s what led him back to his home state to compete for a state title on the links. That’s how, in the middle of the 125th Wisconsin Amateur Championship, Romo — who played high school golf in his hometown of Burlington along with football and basketball — walked off the course in a tie for 74th place, then wound up working on snaps and dropbacks with a young fan at West Bend Country Club.
Those pictures, courtesy of Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reporter Jim Owczarski, show the former Pro Bowler in a candid moment of sharing his love of football at a moment where he could have leaned into his frustration with golf. Romo didn’t publicize his trip back to Wisconsin. You won’t find it on his social media pages. But even after a frustrating day carding a nine-over 80 — his worst in three rounds — he still found some joy and made one young golfer’s summer by giving him some pre-snap tips.
