The 3M Open field keeps shrinking, and the latest name to exit is a familiar one. Patton Kizzire has withdrawn from the tournament at TPC Twin Cities after completing the first round, the PGA Tour announced.

The three-time PGA Tour winner is dealing with a back injury.
Kizzire struggled before pulling out. He signed for a 6-over 77 on Thursday, which left him well outside the projected cut line.

The timing stings because the back trouble is nothing new for him. Kizzire withdrew after eight holes at the 2025 Valspar Championship with a back injury, then pulled out during the second round of the PGA Championship two months later. He also withdrew from the Corales Puntacana Championship earlier this month.
That pattern is the concerning part. A recurring back issue is a tough thing for any 40-year-old professional to manage, especially one trying to hold onto full status on Tour.

Kizzire has built a solid career despite the recent rough patch. He won the OHL Classic at Mayakoba in 2017 and followed it with a playoff win at the Sony Open in Hawaii in 2018. His third title came at the Procore Championship in September 2024, ending a winless drought of more than six years.
He has earned more than $14 million on Tour.
The current season has been a grind, though. Kizzire has bounced between missed cuts and withdrawals, with a T39 at the ISCO Championship among the few bright spots.
TPC Twin Cities has not been kind to him either. Kizzire has missed the cut in each of his last three trips to Blaine.

He was not the only name missing this week. Jordan Spieth, Jason Day and Ryan Fox all withdrew before the tournament began, thinning out a field that was already light on star power.
Scottie Scheffler is the exception. The tournament favorite opened with a 6-under 65 to sit inside the top five, with Ben Kohles leading the way at 9-under.
For Kizzire, the focus now shifts to getting healthy. The rest of his season may depend on it.
