Kim shot a 72 on Sunday, dropping to six-under for the tournament, and finishing four shots behind Fox for the title. Still, it was the back nine that did Kim in. He opened up two-under on the front nine, before bogeys on 11, 12, 16, and 18. Had he not dropped those four strokes, he would have been in a playoff for the title.

Regardless, he finished tied for sixth, which was his best-ever finish at a major. Previously, his best finish was in the 2025 PGA Championship when he tied for eighth. Prior to that, he had never finished in the top ten of a major.

Kim has been great this year, but has failed to get a win. He opened up the season hot. He was tied for 11th at the Sony Open, tied for sixth at The American Express, tied for second at the Farmers Insurance Open, and then tied for third at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Since then, he has had three more top-five finishes and another top-ten before this week at the Open Championship

Kim does have three wins on the PGA Tour, including a win at The Players Championship in 2017. He has not won since the 2023 Sony Open.
