Riggo’s Rag

Jayden Daniels enters Commanders camp with more help but a bigger burden

He’s healthy and hungry to get on the field, and Daniels has some new friends in a restructured Commanders offense. David Blough is now the offensive coordinator, replacing Kliff Kingsbury, while running back Rachaad White and tight end Chig Okonkwo have been brought in as younger reinforcements for Austin Ekeler and Zach Ertz.

Establishing the run will be a point of emphasis in Blough’s scheme, as well as getting his tight ends involved and using creativity in his play design. It will be a major adjustment for Daniels after establishing such a strong rapport with Kingsbury, but ultimately the situation will be better suited to loosen his load and maximize his strengths.

Still, there will be hurdles to overcome.

The Commanders remain without a proven WR2 after the Brandon Aiyuk rumors seem to have fallen through. Blough has never been an offensive coordinator before, and there’s no guarantee he pans out. If Washington is to return to the playoffs, much of the responsibility will fall on Daniels to be the savior he was drafted to be.

This is the season that will make or break how Daniels is viewed around the league in the long term.

Bobby Wagner Role a Tough Fit for Jordan Magee

Mitchell Tischler of Monumental Sports Network…told the “The Kevin Sheehan Show” for The Team 980 how third-year pro Jordan Magee isn’t “gonna be on the field for even 50 percent of the defensive snaps,” yet the fifth-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft can still be “a really nice run-stopping piece in the middle of that defense.”

It’s a specific use case for Magee, but Tischler likens it to Wagner: “Honestly, I think of him kind of in, people are gonna laugh, but a little bit in the, how Bobby Wagner was effective last year, is in the role that I can see Jordan Magee being effective this year. Do I wanna see him running with tight ends and running backs? Not as much, but on short-yardage downs or mostly likely run downs, I really like the idea of Jordan Magee in the middle of that defense being a monster that can go blow up a blocker and get to the running back, or just straight get after the ball-carrier.”

NFL insider calls ex-Commanders WR Deebo Samuel’s free agency situation ‘confusing’

The lack of interest in Samuel has been surprising, though, and according to Florio, he believes that it may be due to his contract demands. While Samuel is still a valuable playmaker on offense, he’s not the All-Pro player he once was, and once he accepts that, he will likely find a new home very quickly.

“Deebo is a confusing case, because I haven’t seen or heard a word about anyone interested in Deebo Samuel,” Florio said on “PFT PM.” “What Deebo Samuel has to accept is that he’s going to be making a hell of a lot less than he’s been making to do the same thing he’s always done.”

Commanders 2026 opponent breakdown | Atlanta Falcons

What’s the deal at quarterback? The Falcons have one of the more fascinating quarterback rooms in the league. On one hand, Penix has shown promise at times but is not yet a lock to be the Falcons’ long-term answer at the position. On the other hand, Tagovailoa is an experienced veteran with a longer resume, but his history with injuries and declining performance on the field ultimately led to his release from Miami.

ll signs point to there being a true competition between the two to be the starter, but at this point, it’s difficult to say which offers the Falcons the best chance to win. There’s a strong chance both players will get starting reps during the season, and that could make things difficult in a division that is showing steady improvement.
