Adam Prentice started his college career at Colorado State, where he played for four seasons, before playing one final season at South Carolina. He would then declare for the 2021 NFL Draft, where he ultimately went undrafted before signing as an undrafted free agent with the Denver Broncos. Prentice was among the players waived by the Broncos during the roster cutdown period, and a day later, he was claimed off waivers by Sean Payton and the New Orleans Saints.
He would play for the Saints through the 2024 season before becoming a free agent in 2025 and remaining unsigned through the start of training camp. However, after injuries to veteran fullback Michael Burton and reserve tight end/fullback Nate Adkins, Payton and the Broncos turned to old friend Adam Prentice as a replacement. Adam Prentice’s 2026 outlook with the Denver Broncos
I would expect Prentice to be among the players cut by the Broncos roster cutdown period and to be re-signed to their practice squad a day later. Then they will likely elevate him from the practice squad for the first three games before signing him to the active roster after that. They have followed this same blueprint for multiple seasons now, and I would anticipate them doing it again this season.

Prentice will give the Broncos a physical lead blocker who can open up running lanes for the Broncos’ backs while also helping out the team in other areas. He has proven to be a reliable option in short-yardage situations as a runner, can be a sneaky pass catcher, and can even come in on third downs as a pass blocker. On top of all that, he also contributes in multiple ways on special teams. He is a core player you need on your roster to do a lot of the dirty work that isn’t often recognized by the media and fans but is beloved by the coaching staff for that very reason.
With the Broncos hoping to have an improved and more consistent run game, the team will be leaning on Prentice to be their lead blocker to open up running lanes for their backs. The running game was thriving early on in the season, but struggled after JK Dobbins went down with injury. However, with Dobbins back and healthy. RJ Harvey in year two, and rookie Jonah Coleman joining the mix, the Broncos figure to be a better running team this upcoming season.
Final Thoughts
There really isn’t too much else to say here. Prentice doesn’t have any real competition for his role, and if he makes it through the summer healthy, he figures to be the Broncos’ fullback this upcoming season.

I liked what we saw from him last season when they did include him in the offense. He was reliable in short-yardage and can sneak out and gain a few yards as a receiver. However, what he does best won’t be as noticeable. He’ll need to open up running lanes for the backs, help get the running game going again, and contribute on special teams.
You need a player like this on your roster, and the Broncos have a good one in Adam Prentice.
