It has been a few years since former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick left professional football, leaving Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid as the safest (and most logical) answer to the question of “who’s the best head coach in the NFL?”

According to a panel of eight Associated Press pro football writers, Reid has been the name to write down when prompted for that answer for four years.

Reid, who has three Super Bowl rings and leads both Kansas City and Philadelphia in all-time wins, received five first-place votes and one second. He was left off two ballots.

Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay got the other three first-place votes and finished second. Seattle’s Mike Macdonald, who led the Seahawks to a Super Bowl title last season, finished third. San Francisco’s Kyle Shanahan placed fourth and Denver’s Sean Payton came in fifth.

One breakout player to watch for every NFL team in 2026 | The Athletic

Kansas City Chiefs: Xavier Worthy, WR

If the Chiefs had a summer practice MVP, it would’ve been Worthy, who flashed consistent chemistry with quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Worthy also checks many other boxes for a potential breakout player. The third-year wideout just turned 23 (he’s actually two months younger than Chiefs rookie receiver Cyrus Allen), and there’s also an obvious reason for Worthy’s limited production in 2025: injury. Worthy played through a torn labrum last season, and coach Andy Reid said the ailment led the team to limit his route tree. Still, if Mahomes plays, he’ll likely have mobility limitations. Should he start the season, the Broncos’ aggressive defense should be able to pressure Mahomes and force him off his spot.

Coming off a multi-ligament tear, Mahomes will have to make decisions more quickly and try to extend plays on his bad knee. Injury or not, the Broncos have to find a way to force Mahomes into grave mistakes with their in-your-face pass rush and blitz packages.

NFL Insider casts doubt on WR Tyreek Hill’s chances of returning from injury to football or the Kansas City Chiefs anytime soon | A to Z Sports

“There still is, to my understanding, no guarantee that Tyreek Hill plays in 2026,” Palmer said. “I think it’s wishful thinking.”

Palmer said teams will monitor Hill’s situation, but nothing sounds imminent regarding his return to the NFL. The scope of the damage tells the story: his meniscus, MCL, ACL, and PCL were all affected. That combination creates a complicated, lengthy recovery that could realistically keep Hill off the field for the entire 2026 NFL season, if not a large portion of it.

Former Chiefs QB announces contract extension in second career | Chiefs Wire

“To everyone who’s watched the YouTube breakdowns, listened to the podcasts, watched on TV, or supported this next chapter after my playing career…thank you. None of this happens without you,” wrote Daniel. “I can’t wait to hit the road with SEC Nation, call national ESPN games on Thursday nights, break down the NFL, and bring you guys even more football all season long.”

Packers sign LB Isaiah McDuffie to one-year contract extension | ESPN

McDuffie, who turns 27 later this month, had been set to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2026 season.

Terms were not disclosed but a source told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler that it’s a one-year extension that will pay McDuffie $8.8 million over the next two seasons and includes $1 million in play-time incentives.

McDuffie appeared in all 17 games last season, making 12 starts, and finished with 92 tackles, a sack and an interception. He received 505 snaps on defense, and a career-high 302 special teams snaps last season.

Bucs Great: ‘Should’ve waited’ to retire to play with Bain | NFL.com

For a brief moment after his decision, David had some doubt and pondered if he should’ve waited at least one more season. That doubt came about in Pittsburgh on April 23 in the form of one Rueben Bain Jr., who fell to the Bucs at No. 15 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft.

“I knew Bain already,” David told ESPN’s Kevin Clark on This is Football. “I reached out to him after he got drafted, he told me, man, like, ‘Man, I wish you just waited one more year.’ And, I was like in my mind like, ‘Maybe I should have, but, you know, the deal is done already. I’m out, my guy.’ But, I told him I’m ‘definitely going to be there to be supporting him’ and stuff like that.”

Josh Allen to ‘entertain’ idea of broadcasting after NFL career is over | USA Today

“I do think it would be cool if you can keep it from a strictly broadcasting angle,” Allen told Sherman. “When players go from players to journalists and say certain things that they hated people saying about them, I think that’s where it gets a little murky for me. But, I do think that it would be something I would entertain.

Two Chiefs named top-10 interior offensive linemen by ESPN survey

In Fowler’s combined interior offensive lineman rankings, the first center listed (at third overall) was Kansas City’s Creed Humphrey. The placement actually marks a small regression for Humphrey, who topped Fowler’s positional rankings a year ago.

Humphrey entered the offseason as the league’s top center with an average value of $18 million. This spring’s free agency saw that number blown away by the Las Vegas Raiders’ pact with veteran center Tyler Linderbaum — worth $27 million annually. Linderbaum came in at eighth in Fowler’s rankings.
