Pittsburgh Pirates star shortstop Konnor Griffin is expected to miss 8-10 weeks with a torn tendon in his left ring finger, per the team. He is expected to be added to the injured list on Tuesday afternoon.

Griffin began the year as baseball’s No. 1 prospect and was quickly called up to Pittsburgh’s big-league club.

The shortstop showed his potential, tallying an RBI in his first career game, but also learned that the transition to the major leagues is not always easy.

Griffin has gone through hot and cold spells this season. Overall, he is slashing .276/.332/.404 in 59 games. He has 5 home runs, 25 RBI and 20 stolen bases.

On July 5, the shortstop made an acrobatic snag fading into left field, but afterward realized something was off with his glove hand.
