While striking a deal is still complicated, the latest Barcelona transfer news indicates that discussions have already begun between the two clubs.

According to information shared by Jordi Jota on El Chiringuito TV, meetings involving Barcelona and Atletico Madrid representatives took place only a few days ago as both sides continue to assess the conditions of a potential transfer.

Providing an update on the situation, Jordi Jota revealed, “Three days ago there have been meetings [with Atletico Madrid].”

The journalist also suggested that the striker is struggling emotionally amid the uncertainty surrounding his future.

He explained that Alvarez is “going through a very bad time” because of the way Atletico Madrid have handled the situation.

Barcelona have been monitoring the Argentine international for months, viewing him as an ideal addition to strengthen their attack.

Reports have previously suggested that personal terms are not expected to become a major obstacle, although reaching an agreement with Atletico Madrid is likely to prove far more challenging.

The Madrid-based club continue to value the player highly, particularly given that his contract runs until 2030.

Diego Simeone unhappy with Alvarez

The Atletico Madrid transfer news now points towards an increasingly inevitable departure for the 26-year-old.

This is because Diego Simeone is unhappy with Alvarez after the striker publicly expressed his desire to leave.

Within the club, discussions are no longer centred on whether the player will stay or leave. Instead, attention has shifted towards determining the financial terms and conditions of a future transfer.

Simeone’s position appears clear. The Atletico coach prefers to work with players who remain fully invested in the project, and Alvarez’s public comments have seemingly closed the door on any reconciliation.
