Real Madrid are shifted their focus to exits ahead of the 2026 summer transfer window opening on Wednesday. Having already finalised the signings of Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, Marc Cucurella and Bernardo Silva, the plan is for numerous players to be moved on, and one of those could be Fran Gonzalez.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper, who has made one appearance for the Real Madrid first team, is seen by many as the successor to Thibaut Courtois, but with no clear pathway to the senior squad at present, the plan is for him to leave this summer in order to test himself in La Liga.

It’s very likely that Gonzalez will get the move that he and Real Madrid will want, as MD have reported that as many as four La Liga clubs are competing to sign him. Real Racing Club de Santander, Sevilla, Celta Vigo and Espanyol are all interested in getting a deal done during the summer window, with both loan and transfer options being considered.

Real Madrid would retain control over Gonzalez’s future

Regardless of the way that Gonzalez leaves this summer, Real Madrid will insist that they retain control over his future. If a transfer is sought, it’s almost certain that the Bernabeu club will retain 50% of his rights as well as a buy-back clause, a method that has been very successful for them over the last few years.

It will be very interesting to see where Gonzalez ends up come the start of the 2026-27 La Liga season. It is likely that he will be at another club, although Real Madrid will surely look to place him at the one that would give him the best chance to be a regular starter – that may not be Espanyol or Celta given they have Marko Dmitrovic and Ionut Radu respectively, so Sevilla or Racing could be the best bet of the four aforementioned sides.
