Scottie Scheffler has set the standard over the past few years, which players like Matt Fitzpatrick are striving to match.
Scheffler has won 20 times on the PGA Tour since February 2022, including four major championships.

Meanwhile, Fitzpatrick has only five PGA Tour wins to his name, although three of those have come this season.

And the feeling is very much mutual, with Scheffler having praised Fitzpatrick to the hilt on numerous occasions.
The Englishman got the better of the American back in April at the RBC Heritage, but he still views his rival as the man to beat.

Fitzpatrick was asked whether he feels that winning and consistently recording high finishes becomes a habit.
And the Englishman used Scheffler as an example when giving his answer.
“Yeah, I definitely think so,“ he said.

“I think Scottie Scheffler’s an unbelievable player, but even on his bad weeks he’s playing well. You just got to look at the results.
“It’s the same with Rory, the same with Xander, the top, top players, when you feel like you’re swinging well, putting well, chipping well, whatever, you just have that momentum that you can kind of kick on.
“I feel like I’ve had that this year with my irons and that’s allowed me to score better than I have done previous seasons.“

Matt Fitzpatrick says he prefers tough golf courses
This week at TPC River Highlands will be a real birdie-fest, as it always is.
Fitzpatrick responded when asked by reporters whether he prefers setups like the one in Cromwell, Connecticut, this week, or ones like Shinnecock Hills last week.
“I would always say the harder ones, I feel like,“ he said.
“This golf course is obviously renowned for lower scores, which is obviously nice to have that variation from week-to-week from — you know, last week I think Wyndham wins at 4-under and this week, you know, 4-under’s 30th already, or whatever it is, I don’t know.

“I think to me the grind of staying close to par on those tough weeks is more rewarding, I feel like. I think as golfers we’re just expected to go make birdies and our expectations are to just make birdies.
“So when you do win a tournament at 20-under par, then you’re like, well, I’m kind of supposed to do that.
“But in the tournaments where it’s closer to par and it’s a grind, you’re like, well, I feel like I have achieved something there.“
