It’s been a quiet U.S. Open so far, between Wyndham Clark’s gargantuan lead, later-than-normal Saturday tee times and the constant Long Island traffic. But this weekend, a Rory McIlroy retort to a Shinneock Hills heckler got the crowd fired up. At least for a moment.

As McIlroy teed off on Saturday, a fan began to shriek, “Bunker! Get in the bunker!” while filming himself, presumably in an attempt to go viral. After waiting for Maverick McNealy’s tee shot, McIlroy responded by … well, let’s just show you.

McIlroy clearly stares down the fan, and then makes a motion to indicate a protruding belly. We can’t say for sure what McIlroy intended by the gesture, but we can all fill in the blank.

Allegedly, this “fan” was a menace for most of Saturday, with a commenter adding, “Holy shit this guy!!! You could hear him screaming at the end of Wyndham’s round yesterday.” And it must’ve been clear because even Clark commented on how low the energy felt to end his third round.

It doesn’t seem like things have gotten much better for McIlroy on Sunday either. On just the third hole of the day, the Northern Irishman was heard cursing himself out for a botched approach shot. “Just go home, Rory. F****** hell!” he said.

That’s now two people McIlroy has wanted to send home.
