Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …

Donovan McNabb Jr. commits to UNLV – PFT
Yes, you’re getting old. The son of former NFL quarterback Donovan McNabb has made a college commitment. Via Keegan Pope of Rivals.com, Donovan McNabb Jr. will play for UNLV. The younger McNabb, a receiver, picked UNLV over Kansas State, Iowa, Minnesota, Iowa State, and other programs. In his junior season at Brophy College Prep in Phoenix, McNabb Jr. caught 23 passes for 280 yards and five touchdowns.

Eagles Deadzone Debate: What role does Nick Sirianni play in the team’s success? – BGN
It’s as impressive a resume as one could ask from any head coach in his first five NFL seasons. And yet, the Sirianni naysayers remain. He enters the 2026 season once again on the hot seat, although it is not as scorching as it was entering the ‘24 Super Bowl season. We’ll never how just how close owner Jeffrey Lurie came to firing Sirianni following the Birds’ epic collapse in 2023, but rumors about Sirianni’s job security continue to linger, even given his regular season success and the fact he’s the only head coach in franchise history to take the Eagles to two Super Bowls. The topic for this week’s debate is: What role does Nick Sirianni play in the Eagles’ success? It is perhaps a kinder way of asking the real question… Is Nick Sirianni a good head coach? If you do not follow the Eagles intimately, this might seem like a ridiculous and, even, an offensive question. But for those of us who live and die with this team, it’s a questions we’ve all debated.

Eagles rookie NFL player comparisons: S Cole Wisniewski – PhillyVoice
I’ll comp Wisniewski to another player Roseman likes (or at least liked at one time), Raiders hybrid safety/linebacker Jeremy Chinn. If the Eagles hadn’t selected Jalen Hurts in the second round of the 2020 draft, they would have taken Chinn. Just like Wisniewski played at an FCS school at North Dakota State, Chinn played at an FCS school at Southern Illinois. Wisniewski and Chinn have very similar size, though Chinn is a better athlete. Wisniewski is 6’3, 219; Chinn is listed at 6’3, 220. To be clear, this is a lofty comp. Chinn has been a starter his entire pro career, and Wisniewski will have to fight to earn a roster spot, much less a role at all in the regular defense. But, I imagine that whatever the Eagles liked about Chinn in 2020 (big hustle player who tackles well and can cover tight ends), they probably also like about Wisniewski.

53-Man Roster Prediction Time – Iggles Blitz
Edge – 5– Jonathan Greenard, Jalyx Hunt, Nolan Smith, Arnold Ebiketie, AJ Epenesa. The Eagles have a good trio of edge rushers and Ebiketie should make that a good foursome. Epenesa just signed, but he has size and experience, which Vic Fangio will value. Jonny Page did a good piece on him for BGN.  Keyshawn James-Newby flashed in the spring, but still feels like he will need time to develop. Joshua Weru would be ideal for the PS or IR, should he get some minor injury that would allow the team to stash him away. Fangio focuses more on quality than quantity when it comes to edge rushers and he’s got a solid group to work with.

Roob’s Observations: Which WRs are most likely to make Eagles’ final roster? – NBCSP
WHICH RECEIVERS ARE GOING TO MAKE THE ROSTER? The competition at wide receiver this summer is going to be fascinating to watch. Howie Roseman has piled up an intriguing collection of talent behind DeVonta Smith in the absence of A.J. Brown and it’s going to be fun to see everything fall into place. You start with 1st-round rookie Makai Lemon, then add offseason acquisitions Dontayvion Wicks, Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore, but there’s more. The Eagles were very high last summer on 6-foot-6 Johnny Wilson, who would have made the team if he hadn’t gotten hurt in camp. His size, physicality and blocking ability set him apart from every other receiver on the roster. You know Howie loves reclamation projects, and Quez Watkins is exactly that. But there’s a reason he’s here, and he’s still got that great speed. And there’s still Darius Cooper, who didn’t do anything in limited snaps to hurt his value, with nine catches and six first downs on 11 targets. There’s also punt returner Britain Covey, a WR by trade, as well as 2025 holdover Danny Gray and recent acquisition Samori Toure. You figure Smith, Lemon and Wicks are locks, and Brown is close to a lock. That essentially leaves Moore, Wilson, Watkins and Cooper and the others for one roster spot. Moore averaged 50-for-541 from 2021 through 2024, Wilson averaged 23 snaps per game in 2024, 4th-highest among Eagles WRs; Watkins had that 647-yard season in 2021; and Cooper showed a lot of promise last year. My money is on Wilson just because he has such an unusual skill set and frame. He’s different than anyone else, and Roseman values unique traits. With a good camp, I think he sticks.

Mike Florio Says Patriots Overpaid For A.J. Brown To Avoid Tampering Case – NESN
Regardless, Florio is certain that New England overpaid for Brown. “Getting the deal done helped turn the page on the Mike Vrabel Dianna Russini situation,” Florio said. “There were a lot of Eagles fans that were raising the question of tampering and whether and to what extent there was collusion between Vrabel and Russini… I’m just wondering whether or not the Patriots were willing to overpay a bit to not get themselves into a tampering jackpot. We don’t know, but it would explain the willingness when you don’t have to give up a one and a five for a guy that the Eagles aren’t going to keep!”

Cowboys fans give their projection for Dallas defense – Blogging The Boys
You guys overwhelmingly think the Dallas defense in its first year under Parker will be a middle tier defense. 67% of respondents chose that option, with 29% choosing top ten. That’s a lot of confidence in what the Cowboys are doing on that side of the ball. Previously we talked about how the Cowboys could be contenders if their defense was just average. This response says that Dallas will be that.

How effectively will Washington’s offense use screen passes in 2026? – Hogs Haven
I got very used to watching the Commanders use a “horizontal” passing attack under Kliff Kingsbury in 2024, by which I mean passes at or behind the line of scrimmage. These comprised screen passes, checkdowns to running backs and other play designs. Today, I’ve spent a lot of time interacting with Gemini (Google’s AI-powered search engine) to harvest data about the frequency with which such passes were used in the NFL and by certain teams over the past two seasons. In some cases, I have been unable to independently verify these numbers, but there was enough consistency in the results I got for me to feel that they are probably reliable.

Survey results: NY Giants fans can’t wait to see the linebackers hunt – Big Blue View
When John Harbaugh was hired to be the New York Giants head coach, he set out to put his stamp on a directionless franchise. Early reports were that the Harbaugh believes the Giants already had a competitive roster and the team didn’t need to be rebuilt from the ground up. Instead, the roster just needed “tinkering” in free agency and the draft. As things have unfolded, we’ve seen some position groups be virtually unchanged from a year ago, while others are have been radically changed. This week we asked you which position group you believe to be the most intriguing after the off-season program. The responses were close, but there was a clear winner.

Broncos’ Jonathon Cooper hit with new domestic violence charges after second arrest – SB Nation
Denver Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper has been arrested once again, this time receiving four additional charges stemming from his domestic violence arrest on June 4. Cooper was arrested on Thursday evening, shortly after 10 p.m. local time in Colorado. He was charged with two counts of domestic violence, one for harassment due to repeated phone calls, and a fourth charge for violating the protective order that was put in place after his initial arrest. The two domestic violence charges were upgraded from the initial June 4 arrest, and now state that he committed “second-degree assault by strangulation” as well as a charge of “third-degree assault,” which is defined as knowingly or recklessly causing bodily injury.

Challenges remain, but UFL touting positives of 2026 season – ESPN
The United Football League had a problem earlier this month. Its Orlando Storm franchise had earned a home game in the semifinal round of the 2026 playoffs, but Inter&Co Stadium was already booked for the weekend. League officials failed to find a nearby alternative and settled on a neutral site nearly 1,000 miles away in Columbus, Ohio. The local pushback was fierce — and UFL co-owner Mike Repole was thrilled. “It was a great problem and a terrible problem,” said Repole, a billionaire entrepreneur who lives near Orlando, Florida, and invested in the UFL last summer. “I mean, I was the most hated guy in Orlando. I joked that I had to pull my daughter out of school. It was amazing the negativity that we got. Honestly, I didn’t think people would care that much. There was an uproar and it was nuts, and that was a good thing.”

Former All-Pro linebacker Aldon Smith, 2011 No. 7 overall pick by 49ers, dead at 36 – NFL.com
Aldon Smith, the troubled but talented pass rusher whose promising career was derailed by legal problems, has died at age 36. The San Francisco 49ers announced Smith’s death on Saturday night. The team did not disclose a cause of death. “We are devastated by the sudden and tragic passing of Aldon Smith,” the 49ers said in a statement. “Aldon’s undeniable talent and sheer dominance on the field were on display from the moment he joined our organization, having recorded one of the best rookie seasons the National Football League has seen. Beyond his excellence as a player, Aldon will be remembered for his infectious smile that lit up every room he walked into.”
