Earlier this week, Real Madrid confirmed the departure of head coach Alvaro Arbeloa, whose exit had been taken for granted for a number of weeks. The 43-year-old took over from Xabi Alonso in January, but he failed to lead the club to any silverware, which meant that it was inevitable for him not to be offered a contract extension.

However, Arbeloa could be about to put the disappointment of failing to hold on to the Real Madrid job behind him, as he’s in contention to make an immediate return to the dugout. According to The Athletic, he’s held talks with Premier League club Fulham, who have a vacancy after Marco Silva left – interestingly, to join Benfica as the replacement for Jose Mourinho, who will be taking charge of Real Madrid from the summer onwards.

Arbeloa’s stock within the management circle has significant increased on the back of his spell as Real Madrid head coach – despite the fact that he failed to secure silverware. The opportunity to manage in the Premier League is likely to be one that appeals to him greatly, so if an offer came in for him to take charge at Craven Cottage, it’s one that he would surely jump at.

Arbeloa could be very busy this summer

The Fulham job isn’t the only one Arbeloa has been linked with, as he was previously mentioned as a possible candidate to take over at Bayer Leverkusen. His name was removed from consideration in that case, but there is every chance that he manages to convince Fulham to take him on as their manager.

But even if they don’t, it seems inevitable that Arbeloa will make a swift return to management. There are a number of jobs across Europe that are available or could open up in the next few weeks, and he is sure to be attentive to any and all of those situations.
