One position that Manchester City seems certain to strengthen this summer is right-back. City does need support for Matheus Nunes, who is now firmly established as a quality right-back. The question mark did seem to be whether the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders would target a player to compete with Matheus Nunes or a young right-back who can develop and one day replace the Portuguese international. The answer seems to have arrived based on a new report.
Manchester City are reportedly set to target a young right-back this summer.
Shamoon Hafez has reported for the BBC that Manchester City are set to target a young right-back this summer. Furthermore, Hafez reports that Matheus Nunes is City’s number-one right-back. City are targeting a young right-back who is a natural in the role and will grow to become Manchester City’s first-choice right-back in time.

Two right-backs jump out as prime candidates for City to target but one may be off the table.
If Manchester City are in the market for a young right-back, there are two players that jump off the page as potential targets. They are Feyenoord’s impressive young right-back Givairo Read and Atalanta’s right-back Marco Palestra. The pair do seem to be the standout candidates as the right-backs that City will target. However, that race may be down to one based on a new report about Marco Palestra.
Sky Sport Italia reports that Inter Milan believe that they will win the race to sign Marco Palestra. Furthermore, it is reported that Palestra is eager to remain in Italy rather than move abroad at this stage of his career. Lastly, the Sky Sport Italia report does state that Premier League clubs are interested in signing Palestra.
If Marco Palestra is off the board, it is beginning to seem like Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read is shaping as Manchester City’s target for the position. Fabrizio Romano has again reported that Manchester City and Bayern Munich continue to monitor Read. If Palestra is determined to stay in Italy as reported, Givairo Read fits the bill as a right-back that City could bring in to provide cover for Matheus Nunes and one day become City’s first-choice right-back.
