Real Madrid’s search for midfield reinforcements has generated plenty of speculation in recent months, but one of the biggest names linked with the club does not appear to be part of their plans.

According to recent information from Mario Cortegana while speaking on Ruben Martin’s YouTube channel, Manchester City midfielder Rodri was offered to Real Madrid some time ago, but the Spanish giants decided not to pursue the operation.

The journalist mentions that despite ongoing rumours connecting the Ballon d’Or winner with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, Florentino Perez and the club’s hierarchy are not currently considering a transfer.

The revelation comes at a time when Rodri’s name continues to surface in discussions surrounding Real Madrid’s presidential election, creating a political angle that has helped fuel speculation.

As such, much of the recent conversation surrounding Rodri has been driven by presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme.

The challenger to Florentino Perez has repeatedly spoken about the Manchester City midfielder and made no secret of his admiration for the Spanish international.

“If I were president, a player like Rodri should be at Real Madrid,” he has said.

Those comments naturally led to increased speculation regarding a potential move, particularly as Real Madrid continue to assess options to strengthen the midfield.

However, Rodri’s name has become more closely associated with election campaigning than with Real Madrid’s actual transfer planning.

With Rodri currently focused on the World Cup, there is little expectation that he would publicly put himself in the spotlight regarding the matter.

Instead, the midfielder is expected to remain professional and avoid becoming involved in political discussions surrounding the club.

At the same time, while Real Madrid acknowledge the need for another midfield organiser, Rodri is not viewed as a realistic sporting target under Perez’s project.

Simply put, the current Real Madrid president has remained committed to protecting what he sees as the club’s long-term stability, rejecting proposals associated with rival election campaigns and maintaining confidence in the current sporting direction.
