Tough beats happen in professional sport, but perhaps Si Woo Kim just got dealt one of the toughest.

Si Woo Kim led the CJ CUP Byron Nelson by five strokes at the halfway stage.

The 30-year-old from South Korea then went on to post scores of 68 and 65 only to lose by three strokes to Wyndham Clark.

A final round 60 from Wyndham Clark was enough to see him return to the winners’ circle for the first time since February 2022, while Si Woo Kim had to make do with a second-place at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson after ending the week at 27-under par.

As the old PGA Tour slogan said, ‘These guys are good’.

Before his final round, Si Woo Kim predicted he would need to shoot 65 at worst to win the CJ CUP, and that’s the score he posted.

Clark was just too good on Sunday, though, as the 32-year-old American ran away with the title.

The South Korean was obviously disappointed that he failed to win at TPC Craig Ranch on Sunday.

However, he spoke graciously when addressing the media after his final round, as he always does.

Si Woo responded when asked what he made of his performance on Sunday in McKinney, Texas.

Wasn’t bad. I played solid, and then I think it’s the best putting in my life while in contention. So that’s really positive, the 30-year-old said.

Yeah, I think if I keep knocking on the door, something’s coming. I can feel it. Yeah, we’ll see. I played great. I think it’s pretty much best play golf I’ve ever played.

I’m a little frustrated, but nothing I can do. Wyndham played so good. Congrats to Wyndham.

It’s really hard to do that on Sunday. I know he’s a major champion and he can do it. Yeah, it was so impressive. Yeah, congrats to Wyndham. He played great.

Si Woo Kim on the confidence he has after CJ CUP performance

The four-time PGA Tour winner is definitely looking at his week at TPC Craig Ranch in a positive light, despite failing to win.

I think I was off the last couple weeks. Now I’m back to where I was. I felt really great. Hopefully take a rest this week, and then back to the Memorial, he said.

Yeah, I think it’s a lot of experience in contention this year. So everything gets comfortable, especially with Scottie on Sunday, last group.

That’s really positive. So, yeah, I’m just going to keep trying hard to win.

There really wasn’t much more Si Woo Kim could have done at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson this week.

He was one birdie short of tying the PGA Tour record and he played beautifully all week long.

Unfortunately for Si Woo, he just ran into a buzzsaw in the form of Wyndham Clark, and that happens sometimes in professional golf.
