Claude Puel returned to OGC Nice back in December, replacing Franck Haise on an interim basis. However, the chances of seeing his tenure extended at the Allianz Riviera are growing, as confirmed by the club’s co-president, Maurice Cohen, during an exclusive interview with Ici Azur.
Puel was a short-term appointment for an immediate problem – the threat of relegation. With just four gameweeks remaining in Ligue 1, relegation remains a very real threat. AJ Auxerre, who occupy the relegation playoff spot, are just four points behind Nice. The two sides must still face each other before the conclusion of the campaign.

Since arriving, Nice have won just two of their 14 Ligue 1 games, drawing six and losing six. He has yet to win a league game at home since returning to the club. But that hasn’t put him out of the frame for taking the job on a permanent basis, as Cohen told Ici Azur.
“Personally, I want Puel to stay at Nice. He is an excellent manager and trainer. We haven’t started any deep conversations yet but we have spoken about it. Nothing has been decided. It will also depend on whether we stay up or not. That is the goal for now,” the co-president said.
