Matt Fitzpatrick defeated Scottie Scheffler in a sudden-death playoff at the RBC Heritage on Sunday.
Fitzpatrick got the better of Scheffler when he made a superb birdie on the first playoff hole, after hitting a truly stunning four-iron into eight feet on the 18th.

The RBC Heritage fans were rooting for Scheffler over Fitzpatrick on Sunday, unsurprisingly so.
However, the Englishman managed to drown out the noise and get the job done in the end.
That said, golf fans were not happy at all about one thing they witnessed from Fitzpatrick during the final round at Harbour Town Golf Links.

However, his conduct towards the end of the final round was certainly not, according to some golf fans.
Many fans reacted angrily to Fitzpatrick taking so long to hit his layup on the 15th hole.
“Took Matt Fitzpatrick two hours to hit a layup with a 9 iron. Let’s give him a two-stroke penalty for that. That was brutal,“ one golf fan fumed.

And many, many others echoed the same sentiment, with fans stating, “Can we get Fitzpatrick on the clock,“ and, “Fitzpatrick always complaining about pace of play and then takes 6 minutes to hit his second shot.“
Unfortunately for Fitzpatrick, the comments kept coming…

“Are you kidding with allowing 4 minutes to hit a layup on 15 for Fitzpatrick? What an abomination,“ one fan exclaimed.
While another said, “These guys make golf so hard to watch man.“
“Hit the ball already Fitzpatrick,“ one angry fan wrote on X, while another said, “M Fitzpatrick takes too long to hit the ball.“
Meanwhile, another fan accused Fitzpatrick of hypocrisy, after his comments about slow play at the Valspar Championship last month, “Fitzpatrick cried about slow play at the Valspar and then he comes out and does this down the stretch.“
Matt Fitzpatrick must learn from RBC Heritage slow play issue
Fitzpatrick took four minutes to hit his second shot on the 15th hole on Sunday at Harbour Town.

And he ended up missing the fairway after all of that!
It was a bizarre situation because Fitzpatrick actually made things more difficult for himself.
He created a certain level of indecisiveness when he really didn’t need to do so.
Hopefully Fitzpatrick learns from that moment on the 15th hole on Sunday at the RBC Heritage.
The Englishman is a fantastic golfer but taking four minutes to hit a layup shot will do him no favors in the long run.
