It took a playoff birdie, but Matt Fitzpatrick has now claimed his second win of the PGA Tour season.

Fitzpatrick fended off top-ranked Scottie Scheffler and grabbed a one-shot win at the RBC Heritage. He posted a 1-under 70 in his final round at Harbour Town in South Carolina and drilled a 13-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to grab his win over Scheffler. That gave him his second win in his last three starts on Tour and brought him to four wins in his Tour career.

The win also earned Fitzpatrick a $3.6 million check, which was part of a $20 million purse this week at the signature event.

Fitzpatrick started the final round with a three-shot lead over Scheffler and the field, but Scheffler quickly rallied back and made two birdies in his final three holes to force the playoff. Fitzpatrick, who made 14 straight pars himself, bogeyed the 18th in regulation.

But Fitzpatrick landed his approach just past the pin on the first playoff hole and drained his putt with ease. That gave Scheffler his second straight runner-up finish, following his second-place run at the Masters last week.
